Developing Dreams

About the Contest

Are you currently looking to renovate/expand your existing space? Are you planning a new construction project? Developing Dreams is an exciting, first of its kind, nonprofit award program created by Sam Nicholson, President of Grand Canyon Development Partners. Developing Dreams is aimed at helping nonprofit organizations in our community build their “dream” projects, one brick at a time. We are awarding one local nonprofit with pro bono construction management services on a qualifying project through a nomination process.

A panel of judges will review each nomination before selecting a group of finalists, who will be invited to participate in a personal interview with Sam Nicholson and the panel. Of the finalists, a winner will be chosen.

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children “Healing Center” - 2020 Award Winner

Leveraging more than 50 year history of providing residential care to children and young people that have experienced complex trauma, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children will create the Healing Center, the first of its kind program for the specialized care of child victims of sex trafficking.

The Healing Center will offer trauma specific treatment to victims with a goal to have them move along the continuum of healing, from victims to survivors, and then thriving in our community. Due to the complexity of emotional, physical, and sexual trauma experienced there will be an array of treatment modalities to meet these victims where they are in the healing process. Through this program, victims will receive treatment and services to address safety needs, gain a deeper understanding of the victimization they have experienced, improve self-esteem, develop and/or enhance motivation for change, improve life skills and empower them to reach life goals.

Core - 2019 Award Winner

Core is a long-term, two generational, holistic, and collective impact model serving under-resourced students (“Scholars”). Scholars are accepted into Core starting in 6th grade after a home visit and parent interview. From 6th grade through 12th grade Scholars participate in afterschool and weekend programming; concurrently, their families work with Core staff to develop support networks, continue their own education, and develop the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace. After graduation, Scholars are engaged with Core through our Alumni Network to ensure that they stay on track and continue to reach for their potential.

Core’s programming focuses on the individual needs of each Scholar and their family. For the families the goal is to create stability in the home and to provide a pathway to better jobs and education. Meanwhile, we work with each Scholar on developing stronger character, aligning their strengths with career and college opportunities, and providing the experiences and tools needed to lead choice filled lives in and out of school.
